Intersection collision
A Geneva man is in stable condition at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne after he was involved in an accident in which another man was killed in Randolph County.
Gary McCoy, 56, Geneva, was traveling north on U.S. 27 when his car collided with another vehicle, driven by Robert Moland, 50, Winchester, in the intersection of Randolph County Road 650 North and U.S. 27.
According to police, Moland failed to stop at the stop sign at 650 North and U.S. 27. After the initial collision, his car continued northwest and struck a tree before coming to a rest. He was ejected from the vehicle.
Moland was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He died Sunday.
McCoy was transported to St. Vincent Randolph County Hospital and later transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
The accident remains under investigation.
Intersection accident
Two Portland women were involved in an accident Saturday in Portland.
Beverly Roysden, 72, 3614 W. 600 South, was traveling west on Walnut Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at Pleasant Street, according to a police report. Her 1998 Chevrolet S-10 collided with a 2004 GMC XUV driven by Pamela Jellison, 61, 410 W. Main St.
The collision caused Jellison’s vehicle to go off the east side of the road, where it struck a sign.
Damage in the 10 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.
Drain struck
A Muncie teenager was involved in a collision Sunday morning in Richland Township.
David L. Darling III, 16, 1307 N. Brentwood Lane, told police he was traveling southwest on Ind. 67 near Ind. 1 when he fell asleep and drove a 2007 Pontiac GGT off the north side of the road. The vehicle struck a concrete ditch drain.
Darling was taken to the hospital after complaining of head pain.
The Pontiac is registered to Kimberly Darling, same address.
Damage in the 6:30 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.
Deer struck
A Portland woman and Minster, Ohio, woman were involved in deer accidents during the weekend in Jay County.
Denise Enis, 53, 7750 S. 100 West, Portland, was traveling east on county road 800 south, west of U.S. 27, Saturday when a deer ran into her 2007 Ford F-15.
Damage in the 6:10 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
Lynne Baker, 43, 39 W. Second Street, Minster, Ohio, was traveling east Sunday on Tyson Road near Tyson Mexican Original when two deer crossed the road. She told police she missed the first deer, but struck the second one with the van she was driving.The van, a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country, is registered to Jeremy Siegrist, 40 W. 6th Street, Minster.
Damage in the 7:57 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
Wrong way accident
A Muncie man and Portland man were involved in an accident Saturday in Portland.
Shaun Wood, 28, 3528 N. Tillotson Ave., Muncie, told police he was traveling the wrong way on Second Street when he turned left onto Meridian Street. His 1994 Nissan SEL struck a 2005 Honda VR2, driven by Ryan Wall, 46, 4859 S. U.S. 27.
Wood said he wasn’t aware Second Street was a one-way street because he’s not familiar with the area.
Damage in the 9:50 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.
Pole struck
A 2005 Chrysler C30 was involved in an accident Saturday morning.
The car, which is registered to Jiao Butcher, 7212 W. 450 North, Pennville, was reported stolen Saturday.
But before it was reported stolen, the car was involved in a hit-and-run accident on county road 750 West, according to a police report.
The driver of the vehicle, who fled the scene, was traveling north on 750 West near Ind. 18 when the vehicle went off the east side of the road and struck a pole, according to a police report.
Damage in the 8:53 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.
Ran off the road
An Anderson man was involved in an accident Sunday in Jackson Township.
Jerry Wilkinson, 56, 2614 Horton Drive, was traveling north on county road 200 West when he failed to stop at the T-intersection at 200 West and 300 North, according to a police report. His 2009 Toyota CBL went straight off the road and entered a cornfield, owned by Doug Milligan, 129 Northshore Drive, Geneva.
Wilkinson attempted to exit the cornfield by driving through it, but got stuck several hundred feet from the road, the police report stated.
He was cited for having no proof of financial responsibility.
Damage in the 2:20 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $5,000 and $10,000.
Car struck
A Portland man was involved in an accident Saturday night in Pike Township.
Joseph Hudson, 26, 6785 S. Boundary Pike, told police he was traveling east on Treaty Line Road near county road 300 East when a tree branch fell from a tree and struck the driver side window of his 2000 Pontiac Booneville. The branch caused damage to the windshield.
Damage in the 10:13 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
Mercer accident
A Fort Recovery woman was injured in a three-vehicle accident west of Fort Recovery about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Karen A. Bertke, 59, was treated for minor injuries at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, and released.
Police said Bertke was westbound on Ohio 119 in a 2010 Cadillac and had stopped prior to making a left turn onto Lowry Road. The Bertke car was struck in the rear by a 2003 Buick driven by Kierstin N. Ward, 21, Portland.
The impact pushed the Bertke car forward across the centerline where it was sideswiped by a tuck driven by Steven L. Knoth, 50, Coldwater.
Ward was issued a ticket for failure to maintain an assured clear distance.
In area courts
Devan R. Dugger, 18, Fort Recovery, pleaded no contest in Celina Municipal Court to charges of criminal trespass and contributing to the unruliness of a juvenile. He was sentenced to 210 days in jail, with 180 days suspended on the condition that he have no contact with the juvenile for two years.
In the same court, Nathan D.J. Frederick, 23, Fort Recovery, pleaded no contest to obstructing official business. He was sentenced to 40 days in jail with 30 days suspended on the condition that he have no similar violations for one year. He was also assessed court costs.
Also in the same court, Johnathan N. Parke, 48, Portland pleaded no contest to driving in violation of a license restriction and was assessed court costs; Danielle D. Dues, 31, Fort Recovery, was fined $30 for failure to display license plates; Andrew S. Lochtefeld, 26, Fort Recovery, was fined $23.50 for a stop sign violation; and Kyle J. Weaver, 29, Portland, was fined $25 for speeding.
