Playoff season could be exciting
Rays of Insight
Tournament time is here.
The postseason for Indiana high school sports began this weekend with the golf sectional tournaments. Meanwhile, Fort Recovery’s teams took to the links for the Midwest Athletic Conference tournaments.
It was a strong day overall, as both Jay County and South Adams earned team regional berths. And four Tribe athletes picked up all-conference honors.
Those successes are just the start of what has the potential to be a fun tournament season for local athletes.

The Starfires had a breakthrough season a year ago, winning the sectional title and earning a state berth for the first time in school history. They seem to be on a similar path this season, having already posted victories at the Spencerville and South Adams invitationals and the Bi-County Conditioner.
With its top two runners — Sawyer Miller and Bailey McIntire — back from last year, SAHS is a contender again.

The Indians, who are ranked eighth in Division VII this week, have had just one winning season since the program began in 1992, but they have a real chance to do that and more this year. They blew out St. John’s last week, and go on the road Friday to Parkway (0-4) with a chance to be 4-1 for the first time in the history of the program.
Fort Recovery is in position to earn its first playoff berth in school history, and they could make some noise once they get there.

The Patriots (16-3) have already defeated two state-ranked squads — Class 2A?No. 4 Adams Central and Class 3A No. 7 Wapahani — and put together a 13-match winning streak. They get a chance to avenge one of their losses Thursday when they travel to Class 1A Wes-Del.
Jay County has the talent and depth to not only soar past the 20-win mark, but to win its first sectional championship since going back-to-back in 2001 and ’02.
