Last week at Bluffton: After surrendering 34 points in the first half,?Jay County held Bluffton to one offensive touchdown in the second half and scored in the final minutes to beat the Tigers 54-50 for its first win in the ACAC. Cole Stigleman, Andrew McShane and Kaleb Toland all had two touchdowns for Jay County.
Season leaders: Passing — Nick Clemens – 4-of-12 for 12 yards and two interceptions. Rushing — Drew Huffman – 59 carries for 411 yards and two touchdowns. Receiving — Aaron Neal – one reception for five yards. Defense — Mario Rodriguez -– 33 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery.
Woodlan Warriors
Woodburn, 4-1 (1-1)
Coach: Sherwood Haydock, fourth year
Conference: Allen County Athletic Conference
Last week vs. Bowman Academy: Woodlan scored 15 points in the opening quarter, then continued to dismantle the visiting Bowman Academy Eagles 42-12. Mitchell Vanbrocklin rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries, and Shawn Kitzmiller tallied 100 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Season leaders: Passing — Rick Ehle – 24-of-56 for 314 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Rushing — Vanbrocklin – 121 carries for 762 yards and 11 touchdowns. Receiving — Tre’Von McCarter – six receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Defense — Jordan Delagrange – 42 tackles and four tackles for loss.
Game notes: This is the first meeting between new conference rivals ... Woodlan is coming off a season in which it went 8-4 and lost to Bremen 20-13 in the sectional championship. It was also the first winning season for the Warriors since 2005 ... Jay County is without leading rusher Drew Huffman, who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury last week against Bluffton ... This is the first of three straight home games for the Patriots, who host South Adams Oct. 3 for homecoming and then?Leo Oct. 10.
