JCPL has a lot planned
Be sure to check out all the Halloween themed books, music CDs and DVDs and all other activities this October at Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. in Portland.
Halloween Happenings will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. Children are welcome to come in costume to a haunted house in the community room and crafts and activities in the children’s area. Preschool through elementary school children are welcome. Those younger than 7 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Make a book pumpkin at a workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 11. Call the library at (260) 726-7890 to register and bring scissors if possible.
Teen Read Week, a national literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association, is Oct. 12 to 18 for teens to ‘Read For the Fun Of It.”
Teens are encouraged to visit the newly transformed teen area at the library and share what materials and activities they would like to see.
The Fall in Love with Books program for adults continues through Nov. 15. Read-It-Rate-It forms are available at the circulation desk.
Mark and Lois Tatman and Rosie Clamme donated books to the library in memory of Phil Lutz.
The books donated included “Killing Patton: The Strange Death of America’s Most Audacious General” by Bill O’Reilly; “The Way Forward: Renewing the American Ideal” by Paul Ryan and “WW1 in 1000 Objects” by Peter Doyle.
•The Cookbook Club will meet at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 13 with the theme “Mystery Ingredient. What did you put in that no one would guess?” Be sure to check out culinary mystery series at http://www.cozy-mystery.com/blog/cozy-mystery-authors-with-culinary-themes-part-5.html.
Other activities happening next month at the library are:
•Story times, for infants through preschool age children, are held at 11:30 a.m. each Wednesday in October.
•Mother Goose & Me, for infants through preschool age children, will be at 10 a.m. on Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 31.
•The Lego Club will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. each Tuesday in October. Children seven and younger should be accompanied by a caregiver who is at least 13 years old.
•The JayCPL Book Club will discuss the book “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman at 7 p.m. Oct. 20.
•Friends meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 21.
•Hooks and Needles Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 28. Bring projects and supplies.
•Register with Cheryl or Cindy for One 2 One Tech Tutoring, a 30 minute session to help with the internet or basic computer skills.
