Success continues for Miller

Collegiate Check-up

Eme Miller had a record-breaking 2013 season after taking her freshman year off from running cross country. So far, 2014 has brought more of the same.
The 2012 Jay County High School graduate broke her own Defiance College record Sept. 13 as the Yellow Jackets finished 18th out of 25 teams at the Calvin Knight Invitational.
Miller was one of 13 runners to break the 19-minute mark in the 5K race as she finished 11th overall. She posted a time of 18 minutes, 52 seconds, while Cassandra Vince of the host Knights won in 17:50.
The junior shattered the record she set at last season’s #JennaStrong Fall Classic at Wilmington College by more than 16 seconds.
Miller also teamed with Kelsey Bowling to post a time of 38:18.4 at the Manchester University Hokum Karem.

Kelsey Fiely
Fort Recovery – 2013
Had a key role defensively Sept. 17 for the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team as it upset NAIA No. 24 Davenport 25-18, 23-25, 18-25, 25-16, 13-5.
Fiely played in four of the five games for the Racers and finished with 10 digs. She also had a pair of assists.
The sophomore added five digs Sept. 5 in a sweep of Kentucky Christian.

Hannah Moore
South Adams – 2012
Was one of the top runners for the Huntington University women’s cross country team Friday as it finished fourth at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships at Purdue University.
Moore had the No. 2 time for the Foresters in the Little State race, which included the state’s NCAA Division II and III and NAIA schools. She was 22nd overall in 19 minutes, 5.1 seconds.
The junior helped the Foresters to wins in their first two meets of the season as she placed seventh at the Bluffton University 5K and 10th Sept. 6 at the Madison Kiwanis Invitational hosted by Hanover College.

Dylan Cope
Jay County – 2013
Also took part in the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships as he ran for the Indiana University East men’s cross country team.
Cope posted the No. 2 time for the Red Wolves, who finished 15th. He was 84th overall in the 8K race in 28 minutes, 52.2 seconds.
The sophomore was sixth in 30:05 Aug. 29 as his team won the season-opening Indiana University East Red Wolf Rumble. He finished 21st in 27:24.9 Sept. 12 at the IWU Wildcat Twilight Invitational.

Drew Houck

Jay County – 2011
Played for the Indiana University East men’s golf team, which placed sixth Sept. 14 at the Vincennes University Fall Invitational.
Houck was consistent in the tournament at Country Oaks Golf Course, shooting consecutive rounds of 84. His 36-hole score of 168 was fourth-best for the Red Wolves and 34th overall.
The senior had the No. 2 score for IU East with an 82 Aug. 29 as the team finished second at the Battle at Bloomington, and he shot 78 during the Red Wolves’ victory Sept. 6 while hosting the Indiana East Fall Tee-Off.

Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Came off the bench Saturday to finish second in tackles in the Taylor University football team’s 38-3 loss to Butler.
Wanner, a defensive back, finished with five tackles. He also broke up a pass attempt.
The junior also had five tackles, including one for a loss, Sept. 6 in the Trojans’ 56-10 win over Anderson. He has 16 tackles through four games this season.

Tim Lehman
South Adams – 2012
Ran for the Goshen College men’s cross country team Sept. 13 as it placed second in the IWU Wildcat Twilight Invitational.
Lehman turned in the No. 7 time for the Maple Leafs and finished 24th overall in 27 minutes, 33.7 seconds. He also teamed with Luke Graber for a time of 52:20 at the Goshen College Hokum Karem.

Alyssa Bluhm
South Adams – 2012
Helped the Taylor University volleyball team to its 12th win of the season Saturday.
Bluhm made the most of her four attacks, recording three kills for the Trojans. She has played in eight matches thus far, recording 13 kills and one assist.

Abigail Johnson
Jay County – 2014
Ran for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team Sept. 12 as it hosted the IWU Wildcat Twilight Invitational.
Johnson finished the 5K race in 20 minutes, 42 seconds. She was 22nd overall and 16th on the IWU squad.
