State's RFRA disingenuous
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I believe our honorable Gov. Mike Pence may need a refresher course about the first amendment to the United States Constitution.
Almost everyone of reasonable intelligence is aware of what the first amendment says with regard to the freedom and practice of one’s religious beliefs.
The “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” is nothing more than the freedom to discriminate legally. The governor has said it only prohibits the government from doing or causing any act or action that would impinge upon a person’s religious liberty.
I have news for you Mr. Pence: that is what the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution says basically.
This act is not only unnecessary, but is disingenuous and outright mendacious at its worst.
I believe that Indiana has, with deliberate and malice a forethought, shot itself in the foot.
