You can't serve multiple masters

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
Ronald Reagan said, “The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant: It’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”
Now here they go again, standing on street corners, shouting from the housetops, writing editorials and other commentaries about Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Then threaten people with whom they do not agree.
It has also been said that if you want people to believe a lie, just keep telling it over and over and to shout it out above the truth continually and eventually people will start to believe it.
Take for instance the sentence, “Not only do most Americans see the law as a transparent attempt to legitimize discrimination against gays, our guess is that most Hoosiers see it that way as well.”
This is an attempt to try to make us believe that the writer has some prophetic knowledge of the mind set of all of Americans, and can use the word “most” just as if they know what they are talking about.
When have most Americans ever been in agreement about anything?
Take voting for instance. Do 50 percent of the registered voters vote? Not usually. And of that number they split about 50-50 on whatever is being voted on. As you can see that is a very long way from most of the American people wanting something or someone in office.
Then the statement, “Certainly the business community sees it that way, and the economic consequences were almost immediate.”
That is your opinion as you cannot speak for all or even most of the business community. Have you polled every business in Indiana or America and know for sure what they think? I know that I am a businessman and no one asked me what I thought about it and I think that probably there are many others that have not been asked for their opinion.
You are right about one thing though: “Shifts in public opinion about gay marriage and about discrimination against the lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender community have been happening at anything but a glacial pace.”
Public opinion sways this way and then that just like the pendulum in a clock. Sometimes right, sometimes wrong but always changing. I surely am glad that God is not that way as He never changes, because what He has said, that He will do.
Now that I have mentioned God, let us talk about the other side of this discrimination thing. Since it is my religion not to believe the way lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender believe why do you want to discriminate against me and others like me. I feel it is my right under the constitution where it states in part, “... or the free exercise thereof ...” not to be saddled with a law that demands that I will do that which is against my beliefs by aiding and abetting someone when my belief places them in the wrong. So now the simple question is, should it be legal under Indiana law to discriminate against Christians and people of the Faith? If as you say, “The American people don’t want to sanction this sort of discrimination ...” what discrimination is being talked about here?
Why are you hot and heavy on the one with complete disregard of the other?
I think the answer is in another one of your sentences: “How much this is going to cost Indiana is anybody’s guess.”
The concern is not for the lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender community or the Christians and people of faith. It’s all about the money. all else is cast aside. Where is the money? What will we do without the money?
If money is so all important in the thoughts of the business community of Indiana then they have forgotten one very important point as Jesus said in Matthew 6:24: Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Sincerely,
Max E. Blowers
Bryant
