Thank you for Fiber Fest success
Letters to the editor
To the editor:
The Jay County Visitor & Tourism Bureau Board of Directors and staff would like to thank all 2015 participants of this year’s Fiber Fest & Spin-In at Jay County Fairgrounds.
The event was again a success, bringing in people from all over Indiana and the Midwest for a great weekend of celebrating the fiber arts. Over the course of two days the Fiber Fest event brought in over 1,000 visitors and had over 50 students sign-up for a variety of classes.
The annual event began in 2004 as a place for spinners and fiber artists to come and share their knowledge. A variety of fibers and products were on display and for sale. In addition, there were demonstrations of weaving, quilting, rug hooking, basket weaving and a room full of educated people eager to share their knowledge.
Our distinguished lecturer Kate Larson taught classes and held a very interesting lecture over the different Leicester sheep breeds.
We again had a petting zoo and sheep shearing. The meat goat and lamb judging was very competitive this year; congratulations to our winners.
We have many volunteers behind the scenes that are too numerous to mention. I want to thank each one of them for making this event a success. The Fiber Fest & Spin-In continues to be a “small-town friendly show” and the “best small show.”
None of these things would be available without the generous contributions of our sponsors Richard’s Restaurant and Raymond James. Thank you for the support.
Next year’s Fiber Fest is scheduled for March 11 and 12.
If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about the Fiber Fest please contact Gyneth Augsburger, Director of the Jay County Visitor & Tourism Bureau, at (260) 726-3366 or visit our website at http://www.visitjaycounty.com.
Sincerely,
