Thank you for holiday generosity

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
Thanks to the gracious assistance of this community, the folks attending our 25th community Thanksgiving dinner enjoyed a delicious traditional meal with turkey and all the trimmings. Many kitchens around town smelled so good as 32 turkeys were roasted to serve our record 625 meals.
The phone began ringing early that morning and continued well into the afternoon as calls came in requesting the old-fashioned dinner. We had a record number of volunteers dropping by asking to be put to work, and from elementary-aged youngsters to those in their 80s there were tasks for each one. The camaraderie among all was warm and heartfelt.
When the drivers returned from making their deliveries you could hear the enthusiasm in their voices for the help we were able to give to so many. There was also an abundant amount of food delivered from homes as families organized their own dinner and prepared an extra dish to share with us for those dining in. it was such a heartwarming day and would not have been possible without the kindness of sororities, service clubs, businesses, churches and many, many individuals. This is truly a community that cares.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for putting true meaning in the commandment — “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
With heartfelt thanks,
Carol Smith
