GENEVA — A contentious trailhead in Adams County will be relocated.
Geneva Town Council accepted this morning a recommendation from South Adams Trails to move the proposed trailhead from near Rainbow Lake to south of county road 950 South. Residents around the lake were concerned about manure deposited in the trailhead parking lot getting into the water and raising E. coli levels.
Because the project depends largely on state funds, and timeline stipulations are attached, South Adams Trails will still apply for a building permit and a location improvement permit at the original location to meet a Dec. 28 deadline for doing so. The group will later file for revised permits.
South Adams Trails will receive back from Geneva the $21,110 it had paid for a temporary easement and right of way for the land being used for the trail. The funds are to be used for re-engineering and other costs related to moving the trailhead.
The council also approved hiring Jeremy Snow as the town’s new deputy. He has been a reserve officer with Geneva for two months, and worked four years as a reserve with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office and Andrews Police Department. Snow will be sworn in Dec. 30.
