To the editor:
As chairman of our Local Coordination Council (LCC), I wanted to inform the citizens of Portland and Jay County what it is that we do.
Our local council, Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition (JCDPC), is made up of local citizens and organizations in prospective fields that specialize in criminal justice, treatment and intervention and prevention and education. Our local coordinating council has developed a county-wide strategy (Comprehensive Drug Free Plan) for making our community a safe and healthier place to reside by addressing certain problems associated with alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse.
The coalition funds various projects to carry out recommended actions contained in our comprehensive drug free plan.
Our mission statement is to reduce the illegal use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in Jay County through education, enforcement, treatment, prevention and coordination with other agencies.
The Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition (JCDPC) shall support, advocate and promote local, state and national efforts to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
All of our members volunteer their time to address our problems and work out ways that we can prevent drug abuse in Jay County.
Many have seen editorials in the paper associated with various topics about drugs and drug abuse. Our members each month write a letter to the editor about a specific topic.
Since our inception, the JCDPC has been involved in many community projects, such as Red Ribbon Week, hosting community education forums and various other projects.
We as coordinating council would like to invite you to one of our meetings that are held the fourth Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m. These meetings are held at East Jay Middle School, and I would like to personally thank those that put in a lot of time and effort to see our board remain successful in addressing the drug problems in Jay County.
