Fire department requests funding

To the editor:
The Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department is kicking off its fundraising drive for Dunkirk’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display.
As you may be aware, all of the money for the fireworks comes from donations. That is why we are asking for your help. We would like to have as good of a show this year as we have had in years past.
The last few years we have come up short on donations and covered the shortfall out of the Volunteer Fire Department’s account. We may not be able to continue to make up the shortfall out of our account.
We do not receive any money from the Dunkirk Fourth of July Committee for the fireworks, so if you think by donating to them you are donating to the fireworks, that is not the case.
We would appreciate any amount that you would be willing to donate.
We as a department enjoy putting on the firework show and would hate to not live up to the expectations of everyone who comes out and enjoys the show.
