Addicts have help available
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The goal of the Jay County Drug Coalition has always been to get the word out about the dangers of drugs and the addictions that can result from them.
Still today there are people in northeast Indiana who believe such things can’t and don’t happen in our area.
The tragedy in Bluffton this week is a worst-case scenario of what can and does happen with the abuse of drugs. If the man and woman had not been high on drugs themselves, it would have never occurred to them to put drugs in the boys’ bottles and watch them have fun.
This is a situation of collateral damage of the worst kind.
The abuse of drugs by individuals is not only self-destructive, but can have a devastating effect on members of their families, friends and the community. Sadly, in the case in Bluffton, it led to the death of a young child.
Help is available in our community for those who seek it to overcome their additions. It just takes realizing that there is a problem, the willingness to seek help and the strength and determination to utilize the help.
For further information, contact any member of the Jay County Drug Coalition.
