FR reviews 2016 finances
FORT RECOVERY — The village’s general fund revenue next year is estimated at $1.124 million.
Fiscal Officer Roberta Staugler presented an overview of the village’s budget at Monday’s village council meeting, during which street repair was also discussed.
Staugler expects general fund revenue to be $1.124 million, while expenses could be up to $1.4 million.
“It shows a negative debt, but that’s if we spend everything we estimated,” Staugler said.
There will be a public hearing for the budget at the council’s next meeting at 7:30 p.m. June 15. The budget must go to the Mercer County auditor by July 20.
Estimated transfers to other funds total $550,000, with the largest transfer being $380,000 to the street construction maintenance fund.
Upcoming street work includes Milligan Street, which has not been repaved since 1995 and now needs attention.
“There’s a lot of places that hold water, and that’s when you start having problems,” said village administrator Randy Diller. “That’s that truck route. If we let that one go it’ll get away from us and then we’ll be digging it up as opposed to overlaying it.”
John Street will be reconstructed, but is a lower priority, as the village wants to repave Milligan before it deteriorates to the point of needing reconstruction as well.
“Everyone thinks that for the same price you can overlay you can reconstruct,” Diller said, but reconstruction is the more expensive task.
Another upcoming project is restroom improvements at Community Park. The current capacity is not sufficient when the park hosts Fort Recovery Youth Sports Organization’s baseball and softball tournaments.
“Whenever they have a tournament down there it’s a disaster,” Diller said. “The women’s is a one-stall restroom, so you get 10, 12 teams down there with parents, it don’t work very good.”
Diller was unsure how much restroom improvements are likely to cost.
Council members Rod Thobe, Dave Garman, Dave Kaup, Dave Bretz, Al Post and Cliff Wendel also passed an ordinance setting the wage for a part-time assistant grant administrator and assistant to the administrator at $15 per hour.
