The handicapped need more space
To the editor:
I have a suggestion for the additional land made available at the entrance of Jay County Fairgrounds since the Jerry Landess barn has been removed.
It could be used to provide additional parking for the handicapped people enjoying events at the fairgrounds.
The current small space beside the Women’s Building is not adequate and fills up very quickly.
At times they direct the overflow to the north parking lot at the back of the grounds. This area is very far from the main activities during the county fair, and for anyone on crutches, in a wheelchair or who has difficulty walking it is very hard to navigate to the center of the amusement area.
I realize there is not sufficient room to provide parking for all the handicapped vehicles that eventually enter the fairgrounds, but it would help improve the area available to them.
It may be that the fair board already has a plan for the new-found space. However, I believe that additional handicap parking should be considered.
