American Legion needs more help
Letters to the Editor
This is to inform the veterans, some of the legion members and ladies auxiliary of the status of the request for donations to support and save our American Legion Post 211.
Ten percent of the letters sent home responded with 40 percent of the immediate needs covered. A total of $10,000 has been received; the other 60 percent need to respond in the next three weeks for this effort to meet its goal. We still need more community support.
We have tightened our fists on expenses, renegotiated a number of the large bills to a monthly billing instead of one large one time bill. A special emphasis on the reduction of utility expenses is beginning to show results.
Our campaign still has three weeks to go. The efforts to save the post are improving. If you had doubts they could be accomplished, rest assured we are headed in the right direction. Jump on the bandwagon with your support.
Just Saturday, our honor guard gracefully performed our military ritual for a dearly departed veteran. Our breakfast, lunch, and dinner count is increasing helping to cover costs.
Come see for yourself. Bring a friend. We would appreciate everyone’s support.
We veterans will be in the 4th of July parade and will perform the proper military burning ceremony for the disposal of faded and tattered flags at 2 p.m. at the Old Landess Horse Barn at the fairgrounds. Adults can burn their own flags.
Thank you veterans and friends, see ya on the 4th.
