Beliefs will not be compromised

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
This is in response to the Leonard Pitts Jr. column on the Feb 16 opinion page of The Commercial Review.
Are you finished bashing “the South” and their traditions? Probably not, but you struck some nerves and people are tired of it. Sure, it’s just your opinion, but I’m sure Judge Roy Moore would do ok “judging a dog show,” so don’t worry about that. Your low opinion of him and comparing his morals to George Wallace’s actions are like you saying that all the dogs in show look the same. Ridiculous. Besides that, my wife is from Alabama; her parents live in Alabama; our son lives in Alabama and one of our daughters lives in Tennessee; plus my oldest brother lives in Tennessee.
“Oh, be careful little words what you say because Father up above is looking down in love.”
When you talk about “the South” and “their traditions should be stepped on,” are you looking for kudos? Probably from your liberal friends who are determined to erase long-standing convictions and beliefs, especially those of Christians. Those God-fearing, Bible-toting, old-fashioned devil-chasers believe this country was founded upon Christian principles and there is absolutely no way we will give in, back down, be intimidated or defeated by the unending, unscrupulous agendas called and written by journalists like you.
When your “good button” is on you are interesting to read. When you push your “bad button” you storm vehemently out of the stall with words that hurt. Like “bigots,” by definition is “a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to their own opinion; on who treats members of a group with hatred.”
So, Mr. Pitts, the three Hebrew children were “bigots” because they wouldn’t change their mind and give in to worship the King. So Nehemiah was a “bigot” because he refused to quit building the wall of Jerusalem, even when everybody around him told him he was a fool. Whose side you on anyway?
Your ridiculous attitude towards the South reveals a lot about people in your intellect.
2 Thessalonians 2 talks about the great “Fall Away.” What was it to St. Paul when he wrote about it? (1) The Falling Away from the faith one delivered to the saints, (2) the falling away from the fact that Jesus is the Messiah that Jesus was and is God, manifested in the flesh. He is Divine and One with the Father. (Read 1 John 1 and 2) – (3) and the falling away from church attendance and worship and following other gods.
This is what happens when you backslide and compromise your beliefs. The same thing is happening today.
Sodomy used to be in the law books as a crime. Sodom used to be a city (Genesis 19:1-11), now buried presumably under the Dead Sea by God Himself because of the sins of sodomy. Besides all that.
Peter and John in the book of Acts 4 and 5, were confronted with the liberals (religious and social) of their day. They were told to stop preaching in Jesus’ name and their answer then is the same for the Christians today, “It’s better to obey God than man.”
I hope this goes viral because the people you call “bigots” of the South, and the “bigots” of the North — we just ain’t going away. We are not bending, bowing and compromising our God-given convictions for you or anyone.
Walk softly because you are picking on the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
God Bless America,
Wesleyan Evangelist Phill Jellison
