Portland is a great place to grow

To the editor:
They are planted.
The tree saplings on West Water Street are what I initially refer to, but no doubt, this statement also refers to the Rotarians themselves. Rooted and grounded in community service, Portland Rotary Club helped to accomplish the planting of 13 more little trees on the Saturday before Mother’s Day.
Although my husband and I are not members of the Portland Rotary, we had the privilege of participating in the preparation of 119 tree saplings that the club also donated to be sent home with fourth grade school children this year, as part of a program that has been in place for approximately 40 years now. When that project was completed, members of Rotary then, on hands and knees, planted more of their donated trees at various locations on West Water Street as part of a community improvement project.
It has been said that “many hands make light work,” but even beyond is the motivation of the hearts that puts those hands to work. Thank you Rotarians for your generous hearts and hands … from the bottom of our hearts.
Also with this opportunity, there are many other “thank yous” that must not be left unsaid. Thank you Dane Snyder for jumping onboard and planting six trees of your own to add to the project. Thank you to Portland Mayor Randy Geesaman, street and parks department superintendent Ryan Myers and water department superintendent Doug Jackson for your input and assistance, to Pioneer Packaging for your tree plantings, along with Hutzler Automotive, Portland U-Loc and T.J.’s Concrete Construction for your contributions.
Lastly, but not at all in the least, thank you to the many other participants, property owners and passers-by for your words of encouragement and gratitude.
We too are extremely grateful and are looking forward to the future growth and blooming of our stationary friends and neighbors in this community we now call home.
