Market will begin June 6

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
Jay County Commissioners and the City of Portland have again authorized a Saturday morning farmers’ market at Jay County Courthouse.
The market will be open from 8:30 a.m. until noon, and the first market will occur on June 6. It will continue weekly into the fall as long as vendors have products to sell.
There will be a one-time marketing fee of $10 for the season charged to vendors who may claim up to two parking spaces on a first-come, first-serve basis. Vendors will be expected to leave the space they use in the same condition as they found it.
It is the hope of the supporting county and city authorities that local consumers will take advantage of the efforts of local vendors to make available the healthy products that have been grown close to home by friends and neighbors.
Anyone having questions about the Portland Farmers’ Market should call Michael Peterson at (260) 703-0446 or John Young at (260) 726-2565.

Veteran thanks
To the editor:
I would like to thank Jay County Hospital and its employees for the free meal they provided for veterans on Memorial Day. It was wonderful.
