Thank you for Heritage success

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
Despite many tents being destroyed by high winds, the 13th Annual Jay County Heritage Festival was a huge success.
Thanks to the volunteers who pitched in Saturday morning and had tables, chairs and most of our re-enactors and crafters moved inside the museum by starting time. Thanks also to those who willingly crowded into every nook and cranny of the museum to display their wares.
The cool, rainy weather on Saturday did not stop golf cart drivers from ferrying hundreds of visitors to and from the school parking lot. The museum was packed with people most of the day.
Sunday’s sunshine brought out hundreds more visitors. Many crafters moved outside. People stood in line for food, only to find the larger than normal crowd had consumed all of some menu items by mid-afternoon.
Thanks to all who attended and/or helped with the festival in any way. We especially thank the sponsors who supported our festival financially.
Also, thank you to following committee members for their help: Janice Stucky, Rob Weaver, Linda Frantz, Maria Hiatt, Carole Leonhard, Alice Paxson, Tami Horn, Ralph Grapner, Larry and Sandy Bubp, Phil Rager, Carter Leonard, Blake Watson, Sylvia Morrical, Rotch Shope, Hope Pearson, Rosie Pensinger, Ingrid Saxman, Rod Wolford, Jeff Bowen, Don and Jane Spencer, David Frasher, Judy Zearbaugh, and Pam Ray.
Next year’s festival, scheduled for Sept. 24 and 25, will be celebrating Indiana’s Bicentennial.
We also wish to express our appreciation to all who contributed to our museum expansion fund, including the Portland Foundation for their large grant. Although it will be filled with displays by next year, having the vacant indoor space allowed us to hold this year’s festival in spite of the weather and tent damage.
Christmas at the Museum will begin on Nov. 28. At least 15 groups will be decorating trees this year. Watch for more information about Museum Candlelight Tours on Dec. 5 and Family Festivities Day on Dec. 13.
Again, thank you to all who made our Heritage Festival a huge success.
