Former Jay teammates clash

Collegiate Check-up

Kegan Comer and Scott Schwieterman spent their careers together as teammates at East Jay Middle School and Jay County High School.
On Monday, they clashed on the collegiate court.
Comer’s NAIA Division II No. 4 University of St. Francis men’s basketball team got the better of the battle of 2013 JCHS graduates as it defeated Schwieterman’s Indiana Tech squad 72-55.
It was a big night for Comer, who led the Cougars (3-2) with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. He hit a pair of 3-pointers, and also had four assists and two rebounds.
Schwieterman, in his third game back after missing the 2014-15 season with a hip injury, grabbed three rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. He added a pair of blocks.
Comer, a junior, upped the ante further Wednesday, racking up 22 points, six assists, two rebounds and a steal as USF defeated Saint Xavier 102-91. He had 10 points, one assist and one steal Friday as the Cougars fell 61-50 to top-ranked Cornerstone.

James Keen
Jay County – 2015
Earned an individual victory and helped a relay team to another as the Tiffin University men’s swim team split a double-dual with Hillsdale and Olivet colleges.
The Dragons beat Olivet 80-24, but lost to Hillsdale 66-38.
Keen swam the backstroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay with a split time of 26.82 seconds. He teamed with Petko Toromanov, Kyle Doss and Ygor Zanardo Bortolato to win the race in 1 minute, 39.23 seconds. The freshman also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.41, beating teammate Anthony Modica by more than 11 seconds.
Keen also finished second in the 50 freestyle in 22.78 seconds.

Cassidy Rammel
Fort Recovery – 2015
Posted team highs in both digs and aces for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team in a 3-1 loss to NAIA Division II No. 22 Indiana Wesleyan in the opening round of the Crossroads League tournament.
The freshman had nine digs and notched one ace. Rammel also tallied a pair of kills on 15 attacks for the Cougars (12-23) in the 25-19, 25-10, 23-25, 25-17 loss to IWU.
Rammel finished her freshman season fourth on the team in kills (176), assists (18), digs (173) and blocks (28).

Cady Farlow
South Adams – 2015
Earned a pair of fifth-place finishes for the Purdue University women’s swim team Friday in a 179-117 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes.
The freshman touched the wall in 1 minute, 5.34 seconds, in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Farlow also finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.5.
The former Starfire also competed for Purdue’s ‘D’ team in the 200 medley relay, swimming the breaststroke leg with a split time of 26.06 seconds. The relay team was disqualified because of an early take-off.

Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Helped lead the defense as the Taylor University football team defeated Lindenwood-Bell 41-27 Saturday.
Wanner, who earned Crossroads League defensive player of the week honors for his effort in a victory Oct. 24 over Concordia, racked up seven tackles for the Trojans (6-3). He also broke up one pass attempt.

Hannah Moore
South Adams – 2012
Finished her collegiate cross country career by turning in the No. 2 time for the Huntington University women’s team as it finished fourth in the Crossroads League Championships.
Moore posted a time of 20 minutes, 6.03 seconds in the 5K race. She finished 25th overall for the Foresters, who trailed Taylor, Indiana Wesleyan and Marian.

Abigail Johnson
Jay County – 2014
Ran for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team Saturday in the Crossroads League Championships at Huntington University.
The sophomore finished the 5K race in 21 minutes, 6.07 seconds, in 62nd place. She was 21st on her team, which placed second with 42 points.

Jason Pottkotter
FRHS – 2012
Came up big off the bench for the NAIA Division II No. 17 University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team Friday in a 95-90 win over Point Park.
Pottkotter tallied six points, four rebounds and two assists as the Racers improved to 2-1. He made both of his field-goal attempts, and added a pair of free throws.
The senior had two points, five rebounds and a block Sunday as UNOH dropped an exhibition game 82-43 to Purdue.

Ben Dilworth
FRHS – 2015
Also played for the University of Northwestern Ohio in the exhibition against Purdue.
Dilworth made the most of his one minute on the court, draining a 3-pointer.

Sawyer Miller
South Adams – 2015
Kept his perfect record intact Friday, helping the NAIA Division II No. 3 Indiana Tech wrestling team to a 32-9 victory Friday against Heidelberg University.
Miller defeated Tyler Price by a 5-3 decision in his 125-pound match, moving to 6-0 on the season.

Kelsey Fiely
FRHS – 2013
Was No. 2 in digs for the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team in its 16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 season-ending loss to Indiana Tech in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament.
Fiely recorded seven digs as the Races finished their season at 15-23. She also had an assist.
The junior defensive specialist had five digs, one ace and one assist in UNOH’s three-set win over Concordia in the opening round of the conference tournament. She also had 10 digs in her team’s final regular-season match, a three-set loss to Cornerstone.
