Auction planned to fund the fight

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
A few weeks ago I wrote a letter to the editor asking you to help with the fight against addiction.
I know as a community we want to help and just don’t know what to do.
Jay-Randolph Stand Against Heroin is having an auction at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Women’s Building at Jay County Fairgrounds. Loy Real Estate & Auction volunteered its services.
The proceeds of the auction are going to A Better Life - Brianna’s Hope, a non-profit support group available to addicts from anywhere. It offers “A Better Life” to anyone struggling with addiction.
They accomplish this through a judgment-free approach of compassion and support. They do much more than treat the addiction, they treat the person. They are more interested in transition than tradition. Their goal is to help heal an addict’s brokenness, fill the void of the emptiness they feel, accept the addict without judgment and walk with them as far as they will allow.
Every Wednesday this group comes together and offers personal testimonies of struggle and victory. Many times guest speakers like medical professionals, counselors and drug rehabilitation personnel will be present.
If an addict decides “enough is enough” and sincerely wants help this is the group to get them there.
Recent drug rehabilitation prices have risen 33 to 55 percent for a 12-to-14 week residential treatment program at one of our most often used facilities. This is the only program in our area to offer this type of assistance. Since these funds are completely raised by donations and costs are rising, we are planning an auction to increase the reserves to pay for the addicts’ rehabilitation treatment stay.
All items being auctioned will be donated and we need all the help we can get.
Gift card or gift certificates can be mailed to Auction Donations, P.O. Box 25 Portland, IN 47371. Crafts, baked items (ingredients listed), gently used furniture and home décor will be accepted.
Please label your donation so you can be recognized before item is auctioned off. Anonymous donations are accepted as well. The building will open at noon for anyone wanting to drop off a donation.
Contact Cindy Carter (Jay County) at (260) 729-2214 or Angela Hicks (Randolph County) at (937) 718-1425.
This is our hometown and we can’t win this fight without the help and support from everyone who makes up this community. It’s the time of the year for giving and how awesome to give someone their life back.
Please donate if you can and come out Dec. 4 to support this great cause.
