Sawyer Miller spent most of his senior season ranked No. 1 in the state of Indiana.
Now he’s climbing the collegiate ranks.
After knocking off NAIA  No. 2 James Flint of Lindsey Wilson during his first college tournament, Miller (7-2), a 2015 South Adams graduate, has climbed to No. 4 in the nation at 125 pounds.
The Indiana Tech freshman suffered his first losses Saturday in the Camblesville (Kentucky) Duals. He fell to top-ranked Devane Dodgens of Life University 3-2, and dropped a 10-8 decision to third-ranked Christian Clary of Cambellsville. The same day he also beat Deanre Anderson of Truett McConnell 14-7, and also won by a 13-9 decision.
Indiana Tech moved up one spot to No. 2 in NAIA.

Eme Miller
Jay County – 2012
Fell just less than 10 seconds short of earning a berth in the NCAA Division III National Cross County Championships.
Miller led the Defiance College women’s team at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region meet, finishing 13th overall. She posted a time of 22 minutes, 26.7 seconds for the 6K race.
The top seven individuals not on the two qualifying teams earned national berths. That last spot went to Claudia Monnett of DePauw, who finished in 22:19.
Kegan Comer
Jay County – 2013
Caught fire Friday to power the NAIA Division II No. 4 University of St. Francis men’s basketball team to an 86-80 win over Central Methodist.
Comer hit five of his nine 3-point attempts and all of his four foul shots on the way to a 27-point effort. He also dished out five assists, grabbed four rebounds and notched one steal for the Cougars (5-2).
He also had four points, six rebounds and four assists in Saturday’s 89-76 victory over Culver-Stockton.

Elijah Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2015
Came off the bench to lead the University of Findlay men’s basketball team in scoring in an 82-80 loss to University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday in Las Vegas.
The sophomore was 6-of-11 from the field including 5-of-10 from long range for the Oilers (1-2), finishing with a game-high 17 points. He also had four rebounds in 19 minutes.
He added three points and three rebounds Friday in an 88-80 loss to Southern Indiana, also in Las Vegas.

Kahlig missed all three shots he took Wednesday in a 69-60 victory at Cedarville.

Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Returned an interception for a touchdown for the Taylor University football team Saturday in a 34-28 victory Saturday at Trinity International University
On third-and-9, Wanner picked off a Zach Chesser pass at the Taylor 47 line and scampered 53 yards to the end zone to give the Trojans (7-3) an early 6-0 lead.
He also assisted on a tackle on the opening kickoff.
Wanner wrapped up his collegiate career with 68 total tackles, six interceptions and two touchdowns.

Wade Gelhaus
Fort Recovery – 2013
Turned in a double-double for the Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team Saturday in its 88-59 season-opening victory over St. Joseph’s.
Gelhaus shot 4-of-7 from the field in 24 minutes off the bench as he tallied 11 points while grabbing a team-best 10 rebounds. He also had a steal for the Cardinals (1-1).
He totaled four rebounds and an assist a day later as SVSU fell 93-81 to Bellarmine in the second game of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Challenge.

Scott Schwieterman
Jay County – 2013
Finished second on the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team in rebounds Saturday in an 83-63 loss to Davenport.
Schwieterman came off the bench to grab six rebounds for the Warriors (2-2), trailing only the eight snagged by senior Dominique Walls. He also scored nine points while shooting 3-of-5 from the field, and added one steal.

Eric Hemmelgarn
Jay County – 2014
Had two tackles and assisted on a sack for the University of Saint Francis football team in its 64-6 victory Saturday at Missouri Baptist University.
The NAIA No. 4 Cougars (9-0) used a 36-point second quarter to tilt the scoreboard in their favor, with Hemmelgarn and the USF defense holding MBU to a pair of field goals, one in each of the second and third quarters.
USF hosts Reinhardt University at noon Saturday in the opening round of the NAIA Football Championship Series playoffs.

Tori Lennartz
Fort Recovery – 2015
Made her collegiate debut for the Saginaw Valley State University women’s basketball team Saturday in a 65-56 loss to Lewis at St. Joseph’s (Indiana) College.
She totaled 14 minutes off the bench, grabbing six defensive rebounds to finish second on the team. She also had a steal, and was 0-for-2 from the field in the first game of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge.
The next day against St. Joseph’s College, Lennartz tallied her first collegiate points in a double-overtime loss to the Pumas, 76-70. She made two of her four field goals and split a pair of free throws to finish with five points. She also had one rebound in 11 minutes.

Kylie Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2012
Played for the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team Saturday in its 64-63 victory over Aquinas.
Kahlig grabbed a pair of rebounds for the Racers, who improved to 2-6. She is averaging three boards per game.
