Hemmelgarn sets career high


Eric Hemmelgarn is finding his place in the Cougars’ defense.
The redshirt sophomore had a career-high seven tackles for the University of Saint Francis football team in a lopsided 74-13 victory against Lindenwood University-Belleview on Saturday.
With the win, the NAIA No. 14 Cougars move to 4-0 (2-0 Mid-States Football Association Mideast League) ahead of a matchup with No. 8 Marian Saturday.
Hemmelgarn, a 2014 Jay County High School graduate, had three solo tackles and four assists, beating his previous career-high he set Sept. 5. He shared the team-high with freshman Piercen Harnish, a Norwell graduate and Hemmelgarn’s former sectional opponent.
Hemmelgarn, a defensive lineman, also had two tackles for loss, and was credited for one quarterback hurry.

Cassidy Rammel
FRHS – 2015
Had a career-high three assists and two aces Tuesday in a 25-16, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16 loss to Mount Vernon (Ohio) Nazarene.
Rammel’s effort from the service line shared the team-high with teammate Carrie Clark. Rammel also had 10 digs and one kill for the Cougars (6-12, 3-7 CL).
The freshman tallied two kills, three digs and assisted on a block Saturday in a 25-20, 25-14, 25-22 victory against Spring Arbor (Michigan). She also had seven kills, nine digs and an assist in a three-game sweep (25-15, 25-14, 25-20) Friday against Marian.

Dustin Wanner
SAHS – 2012
Made his season debut Saturday for the Taylor University football team in the Trojans’ 40-0 victory Saturday against Olivet Nazarene University.
Wanner picked off a pass from ONU quarterback Derek Durkes late in the second quarter and returned it 24 yards. It was his fourth career interception and first since the 2013 season.

The senior also assisted on a tackle during the opening period as well.

Alyssa Bluhm
SAHS – 2014
Had five kills and two digs for the Taylor University volleyball team in a 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 victory Wednesday against Spring Arbor University.
Bluhm played all three sets in a reserve role, and had three errors on 16 attacks. She also assisted on two blocks for the Trojans (9-9, 6-4 Crossroads League).

Kelsey Fiely
FRHS – 2013
Came with four digs Wednesday for the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team in its 19-25, 25-6, 25-14, 25-19 loss to Cornerstone.
Fiely also had a pair of aces and one assist for the Racers (7-14). She had one assist Saturday in a five-set win over Michigan-Dearborn.

Randa Gillespie
JCHS – 2012
Played for the Manchester University volleyball team Saturday in a 26-24, 25-21, 25-12 loss to Otterbein.
Gillespie recorded one dig for the Spartans (6-9). She has 40 digs in 20 sets this season.
