Inaugural games were a success
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Jay Community Center just completed its inaugural Golden Games event and it was a great success.
The event was open to anyone age 55 and over and the variety of events scheduled made it a week that was very enjoyable. For a nominal fee each participant received a T-shirt, excellent lunch and cost of all games included. Excellent sponsors kept the fee low for everyone.
Events included an opening ceremony, corn hole, art of relaxing: coloring contest, horseshoes, name that tune, euchre, trivia contest, bowling, 1-mile dash, pickle ball and the closing ceremony and luncheon. Each participant could choose their own events and you could choose any number that you wanted to do.
There were a total of 15 sponsors that helped fund the event and support the participants. The sponsor participation made it possible to give very nice gold, silver and bronze medals to the top three in each event. Twenty-two different participants received medals for their efforts and participation ribbons were also given. The committee that planned the entire event was great and seemed to enjoy watching and supporting the participants.
The events were planned with two or three events a day throughout the week. That made it easy to participate in as many as you wanted. The games gave participants an opportunity to be a part of fun events, meet new people and try games that they had never done before.
We are fortunate to have the community center in our community and to have a staff that works very hard to offer opportunities for senior citizens. I would recommend that more people 55 and older plan on participating in the Golden Games next year.
It was fun.
