What have the unions done lately?
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I enjoyed reading Larry Chittum’s response to my response to his response to my letter.
I agree that we have several things we agree on but I fail to understand his conclusion that saying FOX made a few errors that were retracted on a timely basis is proof that they lied. The major networks spent an entire year showing video of machine guns while Democrats talked about banning semi-auto firearms and I never heard a clarification. That is clearly not honest journalism.
I would like to comment on his statement about “the Republican’s incessant quest to kill unions.”
The fact is the unions started that a long time ago when they changed their priority from their members to power and enrichment for union leaders and becoming the fundraising arm of the Democratic Party.
Not all union members want to promote killing babies, banning guns, Congressional regulation of political speech, more regulations, higher taxes, open borders, bigger government or judges who believe they can write law instead of interpreting it.
More open world trade has increased competition but many unions threatened to strike even after being told that the company would close. Where is Sheller-Globe now?
Many important union gains are now the law and don’t require the union anymore. And in many industries a union would not be able squeeze enough money out of the company to cover the dues.
And what have the Dems done for unions since the Clintons signed GATT, NAFTA or the Chinese trade deal or their party gave us oppressive bureaucratic regulations, Obamacare, one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world and the slowest recovery since WWII?
Wait, all those things hurt unions didn’t they?
What have the Dems actually done for unions since the ’90’s?
