Keep working to improve Redkey

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
Once again spring has arrived.
The birds are singing in the early mornings and the flowers are blooming. But maybe I should rephrase it.
The calendar says spring, but mother nature seems to be having different ideas. But hopefully it will be warming up and getting nice.
This year, the Town of Redkey is going to be very busy. A lot of different things will be taking place. The long overdue sewer separation is slated to begin soon. We know this will cause some temporary closing of some streets and navigation around some areas may be tricky, but it will all be worth it.
Also before long, the demolition of the old town hall will begin. Then, the construction of a much-needed fire station will begin.
Already this year things have been taking place. The Key Diner has moved into the Key Palace Theater, where they are having live entertainment shows each weekend. Lil Bistro restaurant just celebrated its fourth anniversary. The antique shops are growing and doing well. So things are beginning to look up for our town.

Also, the circus will be coming back to town. There will be a car show taking place downtown. The annual tractor pull will be back and hoping not to be rained out as it was the last two years. The junior league baseball teams will be coming back to the park, so exciting things are happening in our town.
The town-wide rummage will be May 13 and 14. The heavy trash pick-up day will be May 21. Remember, no TVs, electronics, refrigerators, air conditioners, tires or any type of building materials. This is the perfect opportunity to get rid of things you don’t need or use.
The police department has begun issuing citations for ordinance violations. They include dogs at large, curfew, golf carts and four-wheel vehicles being unregistered and ATVs driving in streets or alleys.
Last year the town started a town-wide clean-up project. We made some progress, but we intend to make a lot more this year. Citations will once again be given for all types of trash and rubbish, old tires, weeds, abandoned vehicles and unmaintained properties. The residents of our town deserve to have a clean and safe environment to live and raise their families.
The citizens of Redkey have a hard-working and dedicated town board. It is interested in doing everything possible to help our town grow and prosper. Any ideas or suggestions you may have or any help that you can give will be greatly appreciated.
