FORT RECOVERY — Work is progressing on one project in the village while another has been given the green light.
Village administrator Randy Diller told village council that reconstruction work on the southern portion of Elm Street should be “fairly close” to completion by the end of next week.
Diller said curb work is scheduled for today, and is expected to be a one-day job. By Thursday, all concrete work is slated to be complete.
Tom’s Construction will then put a final grade on the street to get ready for asphalt work, which won’t begin until Sept. 9.
“It’ll work out fine because you like to have a week on the concrete before anyone drives on it so this will keep them off of it for a week and when the asphalt’s in, it can be reopened and it’s done,” Diller said.
Solicitor and grants administrator Erin Minor mentioned that she submitted additional documents regarding Fort Recovery’s recreation trail project around Community Park to Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), which OK’d the village to begin construction.
The village was approved a $120,000 grant from ODNR last year for the trail and recently awarded Tom’s Construction a bid to complete the project.
“Tom’s has done some work out there at the park already and they’re supposed to go over there when they get done with Elm Street,” Minor said.
Diller said by end of the week, Tom’s hopes to put in some of the drainage tiles that need to be installed before the trail is constructed.
In other business, council members Dave Bretz, Erik Fiely, Dave Garman, Al Post and Cliff Wendel, absent Scott Pearson:
•Passed resolution 2016-24, approving Mercer Savings Bank as the depository for funds of the village.
•Heard from Minor that the village has received a couple more benches for Community Park.
•Learned from Minor that Diller plans to put together a committee regarding tennis/basketball courts to be installed next year in Community Park. The committee will visit other towns to see their courts and get a sense of what type of courts the village wants. The village received state funds for the project.
