Common nuisance
A Portland woman was sentenced recently in Jay Superior Court.
Kelly M. White, 33, 130 W. McNeil St., pleaded guilty to a charge of maintaining a common nuisance – controlled substances, a Level 6 felony. As a part of a plea agreement, charges of unlawful possession of a syringe and neglect of a dependent, both Level 6 felonies, were dismissed.
She was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail, with all but 180 days suspended, and given 180 days credit for 90 days already served. She was assessed court costs and ordered to attend and pay $150 for the “Thinking for Good” program. She was placed on formal probation for six months.
Syringe possession
A Pennville man was sentenced recently in Jay Superior Court on a drug-related charge.
Steven J. Hirst, 34, 410 E. Max Drive, pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. As a part of a plea agreement, charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, both Level 6 felonies, were dismissed.
He was sentenced to two years in Jay County Jail with all but 180 days suspended and given 174 days credit for 87 days already served. Hirst was assessed court costs of $183 and ordered to attend and pay $150 for “Moral Recognition Therapy.” He was placed on formal probation for 18 months.
Dealing narcotics
A Syracuse man was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court recently on a drug-dealing charge.
Adam C. Alfont, 21, 611 E. North Shore Drive, pleaded guilty to dealing in a narcotic drug, a Level 5 felony. As a part of a plea agreement, additional charges of maintaining a common nuisance – controlled substance and unlawful possession of a syringe, both Level 6 felonies, were dismissed.
He was sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Correction with two years suspended and given credit for time served since his date of arrest Aug. 10. He was assessed court costs of $183 and a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee, and placed on formal probation for two years.
