Commissioners open bids

Jay County Sheriff’s Office has options when it comes to purchasing new vehicles.

Sheriff Dwane Ford and Jay County Commissioners opened multiple bids Monday for new vehicles for the department.

A bid from Moser Motors quoted two 2017 Ford Explorers and a Ford Interceptor at a total cost of $76,718.

Bloomington Ford and Fincannon Ford of Hartford City quoted the sheriff’s office $27,076 and 25,890 respectively per 2017 Ford Explorer.

John Jones Auto Group, of Southern Indiana, quoted three Dodge Durangos at a cost of $25,800 each with a $6,700 trade-in and Fletcher Dodge quoted $25,817 per 2017 Dodge Durango SXV with a $3,500 trade in.

A bid from Fuqua Chrysler included a 2017 Dodge Durango SXT for $34,285 and a 2017 Durango Special Service for $35,685.

Commissioners accepted the bids, allowing Ford to review them and make his recommendations at a later meeting.

In other business, commissioners Faron Parr and Doug Inman, absent Jim Zimmerman:

•Approved a grant agreement for Community Corrections for fiscal year 2018 in the amount of $189,892.49.

•Heard from highway department superintendent Ken Wellman that his crews were out during the weekend treating roads and that county roads looked good overall on Monday morning.

•Approved a $4,204 emergency claim for electronic equipment for Jay County Sheriff’s Office.

•OK’d auditor Anna Culy’s request for her office to print new copies of the county’s standard operating procedure for county employees.

•Signed a contract to retain financial consultant Greg Guerrettaz. Commissioners approved the contract at their meeting last week.

•Approved a contract with Dan Watson for him to be an inspector for construction of the Bluff Point Wind Energy Farm in Southern Jay County.
