Thank you to helpful community

Letters to the editor

To the editor:

This community is absolutely amazing.

Even before the Thanksgiving season had arrived, promises of food and donations of money began pouring in to assist with the need for the community Thanksgiving dinner.

The home phone rang continually with individual and family volunteers anxious to roll their sleeves up and help wherever needed. At the same time, the local agencies, service clubs, lodges, businesses, sororities and churches were putting their plans together for sharing their love as well.

When the event was over, we saw more than 250 meals being served to the homebound and our tables filled to overflowing with more than 260 folks joining together for their own family tradition with us. As the afternoon ended and these individuals made their way home, it was refreshing seeing them carry leftovers to take them through the remaining weekend.

We are so richly blessed that it sometimes seems there is nothing we can do to add to the material things we already have. But this year’s dinner saw something offered of far greater value: a gift of the heart and an act of love shared with all.

Thank you for being a living, breathing community that puts new light in the eyes and hope in the hearts of our many friends and neighbors.

With heartfelt thanks,

Carol Smith
