Multiple charges
A Dunkirk woman was sentenced this week on multiple charges in Jay Superior Court.
Alissa L. Bunch, 22, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony, and theft, a Class A misdemeanor. On the count of possession of a syringe Bunch was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 41 days suspended and was given 41 days credit for 23 already served. She lost five days of good time credit for a jail rule violation. She was fined $100 and assessed court costs of $183. She was also ordered to pay a Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse Program fee of $400. She was placed on formal probation for 11 months.
On the theft count, she was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 41 days suspended and was given 41 days credit for 23 days already served. She was fined $100.
As part of a plea agreement, a charge of possession of a narcotic drug was dismissed.
In a separate sentencing, Bunch pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced Tuesday to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 165 days suspended. She was given 165 days, minus 15 days loss of good time credit, for 90 days already served.
She was fined $100 and assessed court costs of $183. She was ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200.
As part of a plea agreement, a charge of unlawful possession of a syringe was dismissed. She was placed on formal probation for seven months.
Drug-related charges
A Bryant woman and four Portland residents were sentenced recently in Jay Superior Court on drug-related charges.
Harlie S. Garringer, 19, Bryant, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced Tuesday to 360 days in Jay County Jail with all but 60 days suspended. She was given 60 days credit for 30 days already served and assessed court costs of $183. She was placed on formal probation for eight months.
She was also found to have violated the terms of her probation stemming from a previous sentence. Garringer was ordered to serve an additional 80 days of her original 180 day sentence. She was given 78 days credit, minus two days loss of good time credit, for 40 days already served.
Dustin S. Stephen, 27, pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced Tuesday to one year in Jay County Jail, to be served consecutive to other sentences. All but 120 days of his sentence were suspended. He was given 104 days credit for 52 days already served. He started serving the remaining 16 days Tuesday and is to receive day-to-day good time credit. Stephen was assessed court costs of $183 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200. He was also ordered to pay a Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse Program fee of $400. He was placed on formal probation for eight months.

Rivers also pleaded guilty to theft, as enhanced to a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail and given 264 days credit for 132 days already served. He was assessed $183 in court costs.
Jamie R. Heaps, 26, pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced Friday to 16 months in Indiana Department of Correction and was given 216 days credit, minus 30 days of time lost for two jail rule violations, for 108 days already served. She was assessed $183 in court costs and ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200.
Heaps also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to 15 months in Indiana Department of Correction, to be served consecutive to the narcotic drug charge. She was assessed $183 in court costs.
As part of a plea agreement, charges of unlawful possession of a syringe and maintaining a common nuisance-controlled substances were dismissed.
Austin P. Atkins, 20, pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug and unlawful possession of a syringe, both Level 6 felonies. On the possession of a narcotic drug charge, he was sentenced Dec. 14 to 18 months in Jay County Jail with all but 46 days suspended. Atkins was given 46 days credit for 23 days already served. He was fined $1, assessed court costs of $183 and ordered to pay drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200. He was placed on formal probation for 16 months.
On the syringe charge, he was sentenced to 18 months in Jay County Jail, to be served concurrently to the above sentence. All but 46 days of the sentence were suspended and Atkins was given 46 days credit for 23 days already served.
Upon successful completion of probation, he may petition court for a reduction to an A misdemeanor and the state will not object,
OWI
Two Portland menĀ were sentenced in Jay Superior Court for operating while intoxicated.
James Wagner, 34, pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person with a passenger less than 18 years of age, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 120 days suspended. He was given four days credit for two days already served. He is to serve the remainder of his sentence on home detention.
Wagner was assessed $183 in court costs and ordered to pay an alcohol and drug countermeasures fee of $200 and a $400 fee for Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse program. He was placed on formal probation for eight months.
As part of a plea agreement, a charge of operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent of 0.08 percent or more was dismissed.
Anthony L. Rathbun, 50, pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated, enhanced to a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail and given four days credit for two days already served. Rathbun was fined $100 and assessed court costs of $183. He was ordered to pay a drug, abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a $400 fee for Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse program. He is to serve the remainder of his sentence on home detention.

Forgery
A Portland man was sentenced recently in Jay Superior Court on a count of forgery.
Isaac S. Alfont, 19, pleaded guilty to forgery, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced Monday to 18 months in Jay County Jail, to be served consecutive to another sentence. All but six months of his sentence were suspended and he was given six months credit for three months already served. Alfont was assessed court costs of $183 and placed on formal probation for 12 months.
Syringe and burglary charges
A Portland man was sentenced recently for charges in both Jay Superior and Jay Circuit courts.
Jacob E. Hudson, 25, pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to two years in Jay County Jail with all but six months of his sentence suspended. He was given 10 days credit for five days already served. He was assessed court costs of $183 and placed on formal probation for 18 months.
As part of a plea agreement, charges of possession of a narcotic drug and neglect of a dependent were dismissed.
Hudson, previously found guilty of burglary, a Level 4 felony, was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court to six years in Indiana Department of Correction with four years and 8 months of his sentence suspended. The sentence is to be served consecutive to the syringe sentence and concurrently to a misdemeanor sentence. He was given one day of credit, assessed $183 in court costs and placed on formal probation for 4 years and 8 months.
Probation violation
Two men were found recently to have violated the terms of their probation stemming from felony sentences.
Joshua Miller, 24, was ordered to serve additional 30 days of an 18 month sentence imposed on Nov. 25, 2014, for charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting law enforcement, both Class D felonies. He was placed on formal probation for 18 months.
Tyler J. Arbuckle, 30, was found to have violated his probation stemming from a sentence handed down earlier this year for failure to return to lawful detention, a Level 6 felony. He was ordered to serve an additional 82 days of his 18 month sentence. Arbuckle admitted in October to ingesting amphetamine and methamphetamine, breaking the terms of his probation.
