DUNKIRK — City Council met for the last time in 2016 on Monday.

The Chief of Police presented awards to employees and officers for the park board were named.

Dunkirk Chief of Police Dane Mumbower presented a life saving award to Jeff Hopkins, recognized Maureen Miller for two years of service, Donnie Miller for five years of service and recognized Officer Tracy Layman for perfect attendance for the year.

Council member Tom Johnson, who oversees the park department, informed fellow council members Jesse Bivens, Bryan Jessup, Jack Robbins and Lisa Street that park board officers were named for 2017.

Oma Scruggs is president, Tom Brosher is vice-president and Ron Fuller is secretary.

In other business, council:

•Heard from representatives of Jay County Trails Club.

•Were given copies of obstruction ordinances by city attorney Wes Schemenaur to look over. Schemenaur will also be checking into council making a donation to the American Legion.

•Voted to close an alley between Jay and Pleasant streets.

•Approved spending $1,357 for hoods for tractors for the park department.

•Agreed to pay Bill Tressler $3,608.29 to fix a water line leak at the wastewater treatment plant.

•Approved the purchase of diesel fuel and chlorine for the water department.

•Approved an encumbrance for $12,500 for a new floor for the lower deck for the community pool.

•Approved claims of $213.927.15
