For the most part, Jay County department heads will remain the same in 2017.

Jay County Commissioners on Tuesday appointed department heads for next year, with the majority of the current leaders being retained.

Familiar faces will remain at the highway department, veterans service office, the county’s emergency management agency, cemetery commission and retirement center.

The reappointments include Ralph Frazee as head of Jay County Emergency Management Agency, Rex Pinkerton to the cemetery commission, Dan Watson as county engineer, Ken Wellman as highway superintendent and Tammy Davis and Patty Clevenger as leaders at the retirement center.

Hinkle, Racster and Schemenaur will be kept as the county’s legal counsel.

Custodian Bruce Sutton will replace Roger McBride, who is retiring, as courthouse superintendent.

Jay Emergency Management Service will be managed next year by Jay County Hospital. The ambulance service’s current director, Pat Frazee, is retiring.

Meanwhile, commissioners met with Sheriff Dwane Ford and discussed bids opened recently for new sheriff’s office vehicles.

Ford and commissioners addressed concerns issued by Rock Fuqua of Fuqua Chrysler that figures of his dealership’s bid reported in the Dec. 20 edition of The Commercial Review were incorrect.

Ford presented commissioners Tuesday a page that was apparently supposed to be at the front of his dealership’s bid and included prices more competitive with the other bids.

Both Ford and commissioner Doug Inman, who opened the bid, said they did not see the page in the dealership’s bid packet.

Inman, who described the matter as an inadvertent mistake, said he also spoke with Fuqua.

“As a business person I understand his concern,” said Inman. “I think he’s concerned people are going to say ‘well, I’m not even going to attempt to buy a vehicle over there if he’s going to be that much higher than anyone.’ So, he’s obviously not.”

Ford said Tuesday that his office has sent a memo to the six dealerships who originally submitted bids, asking for clarification after many included excess information in their original quotes.

In other business, commissioners Faron Parr, Jim Zimmerman and Inman:

•Approved a series of claims.

•Opened and accepted quotes on stone for the county highway department.

Quotes were received from Irving Materials Inc., Stoneco Inc. and US Aggregates.
