Jay County had not lost to the Union City Indians in more than two decades, but fell behind by a point early in the final period. Then the Patriots exploded for a 14-point run, pulling away for a 62-45 victory.
JCHS, led by an 18-point effort from junior Corey Comer, caught fire in the final period, missing just one of its eight field-goal attempts and going 9-of-11 at the foul line.
Tyler Rigby and Scott “Scooter” Bruggeman joined Comer in double figures with 15 and 10 points respectively. Rigby scored all of his points from long distance.

A second-quarter deficit proved too much for Jay County to overcome as it fell 50-41 to the Norwell Knights. The loss in Ossian was their last until coming up short against New Castle in the Class 3A state championship game.
Norwell used a 9-0 run for a 19-10 lead and kept the Patriots at arm’s length the rest of the way. JCHS was just the third team all season to break the 40-point mark against the Knights.
Chandler Harnish, a quarterback who was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, powered Norwell with 19 points.
Rigby was the only Patriot to reach double figures, finishing with 15 points.
