Join group to fight abuse
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The use of synthetic drugs is not a new phenomenon; but it is ever changing and continues to evade legislation and law enforcement to control access for potential abuse.
Once an abused drug or chemical has been identified as harmful and/or additive and is prohibited from use, suppliers quickly change the formula, rename and repackage the synthetic drug, and continue to distribute to those who are unaware of the physical and emotional consequences.
Individuals under the influence of synthetic drugs do not take into account the unpredictability of the drugs and the collateral damage suffered by their family and friends. The use of these synthetic drugs are of high risk to the abuser since they are often hard to detect, and when an abuser is in severe distress it makes it much more difficult for first responders to provide lifesaving assistance when needed.
If you wish to become more knowledgeable about the drug crisis and actively involved in searching for solutions, please consider joining the Jay County Drug Coalition.
We meet at 3:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at East Jay Middle School.
