Jay County was never challenged by Union County, rolling to a 70-24 win to close the regular season.
The host Patriots led 18-6 after the opening period and had multiple runs of 10 or more points in the victory. They had 22 points in the second quarter and 20 in the third before turning to the bench in the fourth.
Scott “Scooter” Bruggeman and John Retter each had 13 points to lead a balanced scoring effort for Jay County. Bruggeman also had team bests of six rebounds and four assists.
Tyler Rigby added 11 points, Corey Comer scored 10 and Zac Green finished with nine.

Rigby had his way with the Elwood Panthers, scoring 10 first-quarter points en route to a game-high 23 in a 66-31 victory in the sectional opener. The win was the fifth straight for Jay County in the first round of the tournament.
Rigby’s back-to-back 3-pointers extended the Patriots’ lead to 28-11 in the second quarter as he scored 18 of his points in the first half and finished 5-of-6 from long distance.
Billy Wellman, Comer and Bruggeman each added eight points.
