There was no shortage of local candidates ready to put their names on the ballot Wednesday as 12 filed to run for office. All of them were Republicans.
The first day of filing saw three candidates for Jay County Commissioner, including incumbent Faron Parr, as well as one each for surveyor, treasurer, coroner and circuit court clerk.
Parr, who currently serves as president of the county commissioners, filed to run again for his north district seat.
Meanwhile, two candidates — Wayne Bailey, 8212 S. 800 East, Union City, and Chuck Huffman, 5228, S. 1225 West, Dunkirk — filed to run for the south district seat currently held by Jim Zimmerman.

Incumbent surveyor Brad Daniels filed to run for re-election.
Candidates seeking new offices are Paula Miller, 2863 S. 300 West, for treasurer, former Portland City Council member Michael Brewster, 312 E. High St., for coroner and Jon A. Eads, 415 E. Votaw St., Portland, for Jay Circuit Court clerk.
Seeking re-election to their county council at-large seats are Jeanne Houchins and Cindy Newton.
Brewster (Wayne 3) and Newton (Wayne 7) are also running for township trustee. Jenae Horn, 2137 W. 550 North, Bryant, is seeking to become her party’s delegate to the state convention.
