Help shouldn't be turned away
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
If you didn’t read The Commercial Review’s report on the commissioners’ meeting in the Jan. 19 paper you need to if you care about the addiction problem in Jay County.
I’m referring to Randy Davis representing A Better Life - Brianna’s Hope and his problem with the Jay County Community Corrections.
I don’t understand why anyone willing to help with the addiction problem in this county would not be welcome.
I will add after Mr. Davis went to the commissioners meeting community corrections has agreed to a meeting.
After reading the article, I don’t see it as a wanting to help but something they are now forced into because Mr. Davis had to push the issue to get their attention.
Ms. Yvette Weiland (who was not present) stated “Indiana Department of Corrections requires Community Corrections to refer those with substance abuse problems to locations using ‘certain evidence-based practices’ adding they should see a licensed counselor,” the paper said.
I in no way feel the laws should not be followed, but do feel the county should have a open door policy to listen to organizations willing to help. And maybe the organization can’t help but how do either know if they can’t get in the door?
