REDKEY — A contract is expected to be awarded June 30 for a major sewer separation project.
Redkey Town Council members opened three bids Thursday night and turned them over to Mitch Hansel of Fleis and Vandenbrink Engineering for review.
The apparent low bidder was Crosby Construction, Fort Wayne, with a bid of $3.7 million.
Thieneman Construction, Westfield, submitted a bid of $3.8 million, and Jackson Construction, Bluffton, came in at just over $4 million.
Hansel will review the bids to make sure they meet all legal and engineering requirements.
Also on June 30, the council will hold an executive session at 6 p.m. to discuss pending litigation.
That session will be followed by regular council meeting at 6:30 p.m at Redkey Park Cabin with action to be taken on the sewer project bids.
In other business, the council:
•Heard expressions of concern from several Redkey residents about the use of illegal drugs in the community and discussed the merits of forming a neighborhood watch organization.
•Approved the purchase of a hand-held meter device for the wastewater treatment plant from Hach Co. for $1,052 and the purchase of a new computer for the clerk-treasurer’s office for $550 from Progressive Office Products of Portland.
•Noted that the Redkey Volunteer Firemen’s annual truck pull is set for 3 p.m. Saturday.
•Learned that the annual fireworks display at Redkey Park will be on July 3.
•Adjusted a water bill for Rex Caldwell.
