After missing on a couple of potential game-winning shots during regulation, Scott “Scooter” Bruggeman delivered in overtime. He hit a 10-foot jumper with three seconds remaining to knock off the Tipton Blue Devils 52-50 in the semifinal round of the sectional tournament at Blackford.
A final shot by Dejan Nedelkovski of Tipton bounced off the rim as time expired.
Jay County trailed by seven in the first half, but pulled ahead by two at the intermission and extended its lead to as many as eight points. Nedelkovski led his team back, scoring the Blue Devils’ final 11 points as they forced overtime.
The winning hoop gave Bruggeman team highs of 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. His junior teammate Corey Comer added 12 points.

Mississinewa kept closing to within three points in the sectional title game, including 40-37 with 4:28 left, but the Patriots would let them get no closer. Comer sparked the final stand, scoring five straight points to push the lead back to eight. Mississinewa never seriously threatened again as JCHS won 54-49.
Comer scored 13 of his game-high 15 points in the second half. Tyler Rigby had all of his 11 in the first half, and Bruggeman finished with nine points and four assists.
