City to purchase new furnaces
A pair of furnaces that are about 30 years old will be replaced at Portland City Hall.
Portland Board of Works approved Thursday to purchase new two furnaces from Aker-Taylor Plumbing & Heating. The furnaces will go on the north and south side of the hallway in the second floor of city hall and will cost a total of $13,250 for material and labor.
Aker-Taylor was one of three companies that offered quotes for the furnaces, with others coming from Dave’s Heating & Cooling at $14,700 and Laux Plumbing & Heating at $17,132.60. All three models were 96 percent efficient and were offered warranties for the equipment.
Mayor Randy Geesaman said the company has to order the furnaces before putting them in, so an expected installation time should be within 30 to 45 days.
Board members Jerry Leonhard, Bill Gibson and Geesaman approved giving credit to Valerie McGill of 433 W. North St. for a portion of her sewage bill. She had a water leak that, by ordinance, is eligible for the sewage portion of the bill to be adjusted because it is in between the meter and foundation of the house. In January, her bill was $126.43 and in February it was $121.67.
