Community center seeks assistance
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
As many of you in our generous community may already be aware, Jay Community Center is in the process of fundraising for our Senior Center that will be constructed this year.
Our goal is to offer expanded programming in a dedicated space to the growing senior population to those in Jay County and the surrounding areas. The 4,200-square-foot facility will host a social area, large exercise room, multipurpose room and a walking track.
Roughly 60 percent of the project will be funded by a grant we have received from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. Now, we are reaching out to the community and our patrons for support to raise the other 40 percent, approximately $275,000.
As of March 1, our total amount of donations and pledges received totals almost 25 percent of our goal. The Portland Foundation has pledged $30,000 through its winter grant cycle plus an additional $35,000 one-for-one matching grant. Through the Portland Foundation’s generosity and support, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar for a large portion of our total goal.
Each donation will help us ensure that Jay County’s first senior center will be built, equipped and furnished this year.
Project information and pledge cards are available at JCC’s front desk. All donors will be recognized accordingly based on the size of each donation in our soon-to-be remodeled senior hallway leading to the new addition.
Please consider contributing to the 2016 Senior Center Capital Campaign to provide a designated space to our local seniors for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Nathan Helm
