Farming is not what it once was
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
We don’t like the fight against setbacks by these CAFO (concentrated animal feeding operation) owners.
We don’t like the fact that the deck is stacked against the residents of the county who do not own a CAFO.
Jay County farming is not what it used to be.
When honest people try to discuss the problems that they face with the smell, the water pollution, the crumbling roads, the sinking values of their homes and the dangers of illness due to pollution of our streams, rivers and lakes, they are met with statements from these CAFO owners such as, “Oh ... so you don’t want Jay County to have a thriving agriculture industry?”
They giggle and say, “Oh ... if you live in the country, you will smell manure.”
CAFO farmers are getting rich and other residents are losing their quality of life.
