Jay County Plan Commission advanced recommendations for new confined feeding rules Thursday following a public hearing.
The recommendations were OK’d with a few changes, including making the setback requirement for larger operations 1,100 feet as opposed to the suggested quarter mile (1,320 feet). There were also changes made to the thresholds for hog operations and a line added to cover starter poultry barns.
Fifteen of those in attendance offered comments, with nine indicating they felt the proposed rules were too stringent and the rest speaking in favor of greater regulation.
The rules now move to Jay County Commissioners for approval.
