Medicaid coverage was extended to inmates at Jay County Jail on Monday under a contract with the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.
Under the contract approved Monday by Jay County Commissioners, coverage for inmates at the jail who received inpatient services at a Medicaid-approved facility would be paid by the state, with the county then reimbursing the state at the Medicaid coverage rate.
That would reduce inpatient medical expenses for inmates significantly.
Commissioners also gave their seal of approval to a change in the county’s standard operating policy to allow for adjustments in the work schedule. Highway superintendent Ken Wellman will have county highway department employees working four nine-hour days and one four-hour half day during warm weather months in order to make more efficient use of their time when doing road repairs.
In other business, emergency management director Ralph Frazee told the commissioners the annual state grant to reimburse the county for half of his wages had been submitted and approved.
