Collin Affolder hit the occasional home run in high school.
Now he’s got his first career long ball in college out of the way.
Affolder, a 2014 South Adams High School graduate, hit the first home run of his college career for the Bethel College baseball team Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader against Spring Arbor.
The sophomore deposited a 1-1 pitch from Spencer Goebel over the fence in left field for a solo home run. It was the first of two runs for the Pilots, who lost 5-2.
Affolder then went 2-for-5 with two walks and a sacrifice fly in game two, a 4-3 win in 17 innings.
The day before, he had four hits and scored twice in a doubleheader split with Spring Arbor.
Monday against Indiana University-South Bend, Affolder walked and scored a run as the Pilots (5-15, 2-2 Crossroads) defeated the Titans 12-3.
He tallied a hit in the second game of the doubleheader, a 9-1 loss.
After recording eight hits in his first 14 games, Affolder has seven hits in his last six contests. He is batting .254 this season with nine walks, seven runs and four RBIs.
