Jay County will have two new commissioners in 2017.
Challenger Mike Leonhard defeated Republican incumbent Faron Parr by 176 votes in Tuesday’s primary election for the nomination for the north district commissioner seat. The south district seat was already guaranteed to change hands with Republican Jim Zimmerman choosing not to seek a third term.
In the pair of contested races for nominations for the south district seat, Ted Champ eked out a win in the closest race of the night by 22 votes over James Brewster among Democrats and Chuck Huffman won the Republican nod over Wayne Bailey.
