Thank you for supporting legion
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Our Robert Guy Ayers American Legion Post 211 wishes to thank everyone for their input in the last year.
First, thank you for responding to our request from veterans, ladies auxiliary and sons of the legion for support via donations to pull us out of debt. More than 400 supporters responded with donations exceeding $23,000. That caught us up on our immediate bills.
Second, numerous volunteers stepped up and gave of their time, and continue to do so today. We couldn’t operate without you. Thank you.
Our debts are nearly paid off.
We have made several improvements the past few months with the cooperation of the ladies auxiliary and sons of the legion, including two new refrigerators, restroom improvements and new heating units.
A new slate of officers will be installed this week. They seek your support. We have a couple fundraisers coming up:
•The beard-mustache contest in cooperation with Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau and the bicentennial committee to cultivate facial hair in the form of beards, mustaches, lamb chops and goatees. Visit any bank and request your application.
•A shotgun raffle with a Legacy Edition Shotgun Bicentennial Edition valued at $1,900. The drawing will be Sept. 27 at Jay County Fairgrounds.
Thank you for our past support. We would appreciate it in the coming year as well.
Please give us a visit.

Remember
To the editor:
What is Memorial Day?
Memorial Day is a time to remember the men and women who served and died in the country’s armed forces.
