CrossRoads says thank you for generosity

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
“Make A Difference Day” is celebrated in America on the fourth Saturday of October.
Millions of volunteers helped others in their communities last Saturday, Oct. 22. Leaves were raked in neighborhood yards, cookies were baked for neighbors and groups, parks and rivers were cleaned, playgrounds were built and the lives of millions of people are better because people helped in their communities.
Volunteers for “CrossRoads at the CrossRoads” held buckets at the intersection of Votaw and Meridian streets on a sunny, cool Saturday morning to collect money to fight local hunger. We would like to recognize all of you who helped us make a difference. Despite highway construction on Votaw Street, in three hours motorists generously donated more than $1,034 for the food bank. Your generosity at this annual event of CrossRoads at the CrossRoads over the past seven years has totaled $7,584 given to fight local hunger.
Whether you were someone who:
•had your dollar waving in your hand or gave all the change you had
•had New York license plates and were surprised to hear about hunger in a rural area, but gave
•gave a dollar to each of your children to donate
•said your change belonged to your grandkids and gave $20

•gave and shared the story of your prisoner of war father and his commitment to fighting hunger
•offered to volunteer next year or said thank you for helping
•or, perhaps had no money, but waved and smiled as you drove by
… we thank you.
A special thank you goes to our CrossRoads Youth Advisory Board members, the “electric” lady for safety cones and her family volunteerism and to CrossRoads volunteers and our families — you all helped make it possible.
“C U at the CrossRoads” next year.
